The book’s heavy reliance on genre tropes (namely, “discovered powers” and “unassuming Chosen One”) means the uninitiated will quickly find their footing. What I can tell you is that The Awakening is a well-told, entirely predictable story perfect for NR fans who don’t consider themselves readers of fantasy. ![]() As it happens, I don’t know much about NR’s backlist, so I don’t precisely know how a book about one woman’s discovery of her fae heritage, and the magickal land she belongs to, fits into the grand scheme of her work. This was my first Nora Roberts book which, when you think about how much she writes and how much I read, feels a little surprising.
